We’ve all been there..It’s mile 18 of the marathon, you’re hitting “the wall,” and you squeeze down ONE…LAST…GU! At this point, you barely manage the taste, knowing fully well that your stomach is cramping up from the last three as well as the colored sports’ drinks that topped off each one. Sugar, chemicals, colors, and a whole lot of carbs that your stomach simply couldn’t digest quickly enough is starting to cause your GI tract a bit of pain….but you muster through, rip off the top, and…

There’s truly a better way to fuel optimally, without cramping up and in essence without sabotaging your work! All that’s required?…a food processor, a few amazing ingredients, small snack bags, and about 5 minutes of your time. I’m sharing a homemade Runner’s GU recipe, to fuel your marathon naturally and optimally. You’ll thank me later when you finish strong and without the effects described above!

BASIC RUNNERS’ GU
1/3 cup Purium MVP Sport Protein powder
1/3 cup Rice Bran Solubles
5 tbsp Organic Tropic Oil (coconut oil)
1/2 cup pitted medjool dates
1/4 cup sliced raw almonds (other nuts could work too)
Dash cinnamon
Dash salt
Instructions: Blend or process until well combined. It will be kind of liquidy because the coconut oil is warm. Spoon into ice cube trays. Put in fridge to solidify. To remove from trays run warm water in the back of trays for 15-20 seconds and pop out.
You can then put it in small snack baggies and slurp it out if it gets warm and soft while running. Once you do it a couple of time it’s easy to do.
GIRL SCOUT COOKIE HOMEMADE RUNNER’S GU
1/4 cup raw organic almonds
1/2 cup organic medjool dates
1/3 cup organic Purium’s MVP Chocolate Sport Protein powder**
1/3 cup Purium’s Rice Bran Solubles **
1 heaping tsp raw Navitas cacao powder
5 TBSP Organic Coconut Oil
Optional: A few drops of peppermint extract
Blend all ingredients in a food processor to a smooth consistency. Package into small bags for easy transport in your purse, bag, or runner’s belt.
